Which form of housing will prevail in the future? This question is at least in one respect easy to answer: it won't be just one.

Our society is becoming ever more colourful and diverse. At the same time the life forms orient themselves no longer on predefined patterns: the number of one-person households increases and the demographic change leads to the fact that an ever aging population, fewer and fewer young people are facing each other.

All these different life situations require a corresponding diversity in the housing market. But what possibilities are there? The Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Architects has made it its business with its travelling exhibition »contemporary. Living in Baden-Württemberg« to the task to show exactly that.

Whether multi-generation houses, flats for senior citizens, flats for single parents, community projects or Single Units: There are already numerous approaches nationwide that are based on the needs of different models of life. The framework of the exhibition informs visitors about 27 projects from the region, which include affordable housing, living quarters and creatively used areas.

These include, for example, an old school that has been converted into an apartment building. Cooperatively organized forms of living are shown that illustrate what is more possible in a community than alone. The aim is to increase floor space and it is about cities that organize competitions for private construction joint ventures, so that you can shape your own piece of the city.

All the housing projects shown are part of the publication series »KONZEPT – Arbeitshefte für zeitgemäßes Wohnen« – published by the Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Architects. The current fifth issue also poses the question "Which apartments do we need?«. It acts as a kind of accompanying booklet to the exhibition and can be found at www.akbw.de/konzept.htm

Be inspired by good examples of contemporary living!
