In horse breeding, futurity is a competition for which horses are nominated that have not yet been born, or have only just been born. This allows the owners to bet on the future evaluation of their horses. As a term, »futurity« describes the quality or condition of being in or of the future. It allows us to think of and imagine ways of living beyond the present. Just like betting on unborn horses, future desires materialize in the present. Humans developed an astonishing capability to live in, and across, multiple temporalities. However, in the New Climatic Regime, it becomes clear that not only do humans create futurity but so do geology and the atmosphere.
