Description

With the monumental painting The other way (2007), the artist playfully eludes to Barnett Newman’s Red Painting. Whereas the latter work was painted with the explicit intention of creating works free from the ballast of history, Furnas, by contrast, refers to the biblical narrative of the crossing of the Red Sea. At the same time, the extensive use of red color prompts associations with blood, danger and death, thus evoking a picture of the »End of All Things«.
