Digiloglounge Digital | The Panel: »Research. Art. Public«

"Ask the scientist!" was the slogan along with the exhibitions Digiloglounge N°1 and N°2 at the ZKM Karlsruhe, both took place in 2022. Under this motto, questions about digitalisation and personal experiences of citizens were collected. The surveys took place in April and July 2022.

These questions will be discussed in a talk with the scientists Prof. Dr. Sonja Utz and Laura Schelenz, who are both members of the digilog@bw research network, and the artist Bernd Lintermann, whose work Trust^AI was on show in the Digiloglounge N°2 »Do they see us?«. The panel was hosted by Sabina Zweil, ZKM and recorded in July 2022.

In addition to the discussion of the citizens' statements, the panel consists of three lectures. Firstly, Prof. Dr. Sonja Utz spoke about her research on the "knowledge-related use of everyday media". Secondly, Bernd Lintermann gives a closer look at his work Trust^AI, which uses AI to engage visitors in a (supposedly) personal conversation. Thirdly, Laura Schelenz will give a presentation on the topic of "Digitisation only for white men?".

Prof. Dr. Sonja Utz is the head of the working group »Everyday Media at the Leibniz Institute for Knowledge Media in Tübingen« since March 2022. From April 2013 to March 2022, she led the junior research group »Social Media« there. Since April 2014, she has been Professor of Communication via Social Media at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen.

Bernd Lintermann is an artist and scientist working in the field of real-time computer graphics and at the ZKM | Hertz-Lab. The interactive media artwork Trust^AI, which Lintermann created together with Florian Hertweck, addresses the social significance of digital change in a dialogue with the viewers.

Laura Schelenz conducts research at the International Centre for Ethics in the Sciences and Humanities (IZEW) at the University of Tübingen. She focuses on ethical and feminist aspects of technological development. She is currently working on her dissertation, in which she conceptualises "diversity-sensitive technology" and questions it from a black feminist perspective.

Sabina Zweil, research assistant at the ZKM Karlsruhe, hosts the discussion.
