Biography
Heiner Mühlmann studied art history and philosophy in Cologne, Paris, Rome, and Munich. In 1981 he completed his doctoral thesis on the Italian humanist Leon Battista Alberti. He wrote his Habilitation thesis under Bazon Brock in Wuppertal on his reflections on catastrophe theory, graph theory, and architecture, which soon earned him a professorship at the University of Wuppertal. Since 2004, Mühlmann has been a guest professor at the Zurich University of the Arts, and from 2005–2014 he was a guest professor at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design. He is one of the founders of the neuroanthropology research project TRACE, in which an interdisciplinary group of scientists, philosophers and artists champions neuroscientific research on memory.
His numerous publications include significant books and other writings on cultural theory. His most recent books are: Der Kunstkrieg. Das Haus der Deutschen Kunst, die Documenta und die CIA-MoMA-Connection (Fink, Munich, 2014) and Die Natur des Christentums (Fink, Munich, 2017).
