Biography

Nicolás Kretz studied electronic composition at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, Germany. He works a lot with field recordings and the abstract use of these. He works with layers of very short loops and the creation of density and space-filling pieces between drone and noise. He conceived the soundtrack for »CARNE VALE!« for Ben J. Riepe and played it live at performances including the Tanzmesse NRW in Düsseldorf. His piece »Schwarz auf Grau – Auflösung« premiered in 2017 at Chorforum Essen with funding from Landesmusikrat NRW and ecce. For the past two years there has been an ongoing collaboration with the duo Montserrat Gardó Castillo & Petr Hastik. This led to several online performances. In 2022, with »Brutology - The built, the unbuilt and the unbuildable« in Dortmund, as well as »Brutology - A sacred space is never empty« in Düsseldorf, the »Brutology« series started in 2021 was presented live and brought to a provisional conclusion.
