In his new film "Die Ameise der Kunst/Animals of Art" Peter Sempel presents over 50 persons from the world of music and art including Jonathan Meese, Daniel Richter, Bazon Brock, Blixa Bargeld, Neo Rauch, Peter Weibel, Georg Baselitz, Dieter Meier, and many animals. Musically, the film is defined by styles ranging from underground through to classical orchestral music, among others, Einstürzende Neubauten, Goldene Zitronen, Antony & The Johnsons, as well Schumann, Beethoven and Bach. The film, inspired by the artist Jonathan Meese who proclaimed the dictatorship of art to the point of self-violation, meanders through various worlds, from the Old Masters through to the present-day, with music for an Expressionistic art,
colors, music and the experience of intoxication.
"Sempel shows with unparalleled force the brutal momentum inherent in the logic of forms, which render the artist himself an ungovernable instrument in that process generally referred to as art." (Bazon Brock)
Hamburg-based director and photographer Peter Sempel will be present in person for the film screening, and available for discussion afterwards.
