Party System under Pressure?

New Currents on the Far Right as Challenge to Established Parties

Tue, July 14, 2015 7:30 pm CEST

Location
Media Theater
The expression of political discontent is intensifying in Germany: self-appointed political alternatives and rapid ascent to prominence whereby »patriotism« becomes a motif against religious freedom. This development represents a challenge to parties that, in political competition, must declare their manifest protest.

The panel discussion hence poses the following questions: what motives inspire people to take up positions potentially to the right of established party systems? What are the challenges confronting the “old” parties? And what potentials, scenarios, risks and chances result from the current tendencies?

Discussion partners:

  •  Dr. Stefan Hofmann, representative for the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Baden-Württemberg
  •  Matthias Jung, Forschungsgruppe Wahlen e.V., Mannheim
  •  Katrin Schütz, member of the Legislative Assembly of Baden-Württemberg, Karlsruhe
