Licht zwischen den Zeiten – Journeys to Forgiveness

The Holocaust and the question of forgiveness – A reading accompanied by Jewish songs

Martina Bäurle reads from her book »Licht zwischen den Zeiten – Journeys to Forgiveness«. In the book, the author delves into the question of what forgiveness means. Is understanding characterized by culture and religion? Does it mean different things to different people? Are there crimes, after which forgiveness is impossible? Can survivors of the Holocaust forgive?

On a journey from Germany through Poland to Jerusalem, accompanied by Nigel H. Seymour, Holocaust survivors and relatives are interviewed. Martina Bäurle met an abbot and a judge from Jerusalem and spoke with a relative of members of the »White Rose« resistance group.

The book is not a historical textbook. It is far more reminiscent of a diary, where the reader is allowed to participate in personal encounters, events and touching experiences. Martina Bäurle has a very personal connection to the subject of the Third Reich and the Second World War: Her grandmother, nee Scholl, was the aunt of Hans and Sophie Scholl.

During the reading by Martina Bäurle, Selda Vogelsang takes on the part of the interviewee and accompanies the reading with haunting Jewish songs and folk tunes.
