The ZKM took advantage of the many and varied technological opportunities that arose at an early stage to expand the transfer of knowledge beyond the conventional medium of books.

In the course of time, e-publications were added to productions of CD-ROMs, DVD-ROMs, knowledge and database platforms on the Internet. Pageflow-based edited longtail stories were created, which focused, for example, on mobile use. In the future, too, new technological tools will be at the forefront in order to make extensive use of situational knowledge acquisition. For example, the podcast is increasingly becoming the focus of interest, as it has emerged as a widely accessible and increasingly used medium.
