Biography

Ingo Bartsch studied art history, archaeology and Italian studies in Berlin. In 1977 he received his doctorate with a thesis on »Die Malerei des Futurismus in Italien und ihre Beziehung zum Faschismus« (The Painting of Futurism in Italy and its Relationship to Fascism) under Prof. Heinrich Thelen and Prof. Johannes Agnoli. From 1977-1979 he completed a voluntary service at the Kunsthalle in Baden-Baden and after working as  curator at the Museum Bochum from 1979-1988 he was director of the Museum am Ostwall from 1988-2003, where he conceived renowned exhibitions.

In addition to a teaching position at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, he supported the promotion of art by frequently sitting on the jury at competitions. He was a founding member of the »Chelsea Art Museum« in New York and a member of the international scientific committee at the »Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art MART« in Roverteto/Italy.

From 2004 to 2007 he worked as a freelance art historian and art scholar.
