Doctors can diagnose a disease and feel empathy with the patients and express their solidarity. At the same time, they will ask themselves: What is the cause of this disease? They conduct a medical anamnesis in order to find the cure. The role of the doctors can perhaps be assumed by art, which is known to have a therapeutic function.

After many wars, occupations, uprisings, and wars in Europe after 1945 (Hungary 1956, Czechoslovakia 1968, Yugoslavia 1991–2001) there is now a war in Ukraine. The world seems to turn into one single »Refugee Republic« (Ingo Günther, 1993) and the often quoted statement that politics divides and art unites also seems apt.

That is why the ZKM approaches the war in the Ukraine via the path of art, media art, film and music.

This selection of films, the concert, and the lecture intend to serve as an anamnesis in a diplomatic spirit. The end of the war in Ukraine must be the objective of all cultural efforts. The ZKM has therefore invited several Ukrainian and Russian artists to Karlsruhe as fellows and will provide them not only with a grant but also with accommodation.

Donations will go to the Karlsruhe »Raisin Initiative«, which takes care of the transport of humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
