On August 6, 2022, 13 cultural institutions invite you to the 23rd Karlsruhe Museum Night.

From 6 p.m. to midnight, the museums, libraries and archives will open their doors and offer all culture enthusiasts the opportunity of a summer night visit. Here, literature meets media art, vintage cars meet vivarium residents, and regional history meets international art. The museums open up different perspectives on current and future social issues and create space for diverse discussions.

This year's Kamuna theme is "Stories behind things".

Stories are one of the most powerful forms of communication; they can teach, they can enlighten, and they can inspire. Their impact is not limited to conversations: they transcend the boundaries of countries and generations. Whether in a book, in pictures, in movies, on the radio, or online, stories are ubiquitous. They take us on a journey, entertain us, surprise us and enchant us. Everyone enjoys a good story.
Not only we humans, but also every object that is in our environment has its very own story - the most prominent ones with probably the most exciting stories are with us, in museums. What did they experience on their way to the exhibition, what makes them so special and what can we learn through them? We would like to share all these stories behind the things with you.

The ZKM shows extraordinary media art works which moves us today. Come along and learn about possible forms of coexistence between organic and artificial life forms in the exhibition "BioMedia. The Age of Media with Life-like Behavior." Learn about experimental video art and complex media installations that address issues of cultural identity, memory and mythologies in "John Sanborn. Between Order and Entropy", or pick up the controller yourself for a trip through the history of videogames in the exhibition "zkm_gameplay. the next level". We look forward to seeing you!
