Gerald Eckert

Biography

Gerald Eckert studied mathematics at the University of Erlangen, cello and conducting in Nuremberg and composition with Nicolaus A. Huber and Dirk Reith at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. He attended further composition courses with Jonathan Harvey and Brian Ferneyhough. 1996–97, he was at the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA) at Stanford University. 2012–14 Eckert was Professor of Composition at Chung-Ang University in Seoul, South Korea. He has received numerous awards, including the Gulbenkian Prize in 1993, the Kranichstein Prize in 1996 and prizes in Bourges in 2003 and Stuttgart in 2005. His pieces have been performed at major festivals in Europe, USA and Asia. CDs with works by Gerald Eckert have been released by labels including ambitus, col legno, NEOS, kreuzberg records and mode records.
