The festival for music of our time
Sat, October 14 – Sun, October 15, 2023
- Location
- Music Balcony
- Cube
In search of ever new sound and unheard-of worlds of expression. The focus of ZeitGenuss - the festival for music of our time is the music of the 20th and 21st centuries.
The 10th festival edition is curated by the ALEPH Guitar Quartet, which itself celebrates its thirtieth anniversary this year. Thus, the anniversary concert also features very special »Miniatures for ALEPH« - musical birthday greetings - which form, as it were, the creative nucleus of all the festival's concerts. Many works were created at the ZKM | Karlsruhe. The ensemble has been in close cooperation with the ZKM | Hertz-Labor since 2007.
For the concerts, the ALEPH Guitar Quartet invited top-class musicians and ensembles who, like ALEPH, are dedicated to chamber music: Soprano Daisy Press from New York City, Pony Says from Stuttgart and the Hamburg trio Catch. Karlsruhe is home to the duo LAB51, consisting of singer Johanna Vargas and pianist Magdalena Cerezo Falces, the CoroPiccolo Karlsruhe with conductor Christian-Markus Raiser, the ensemble TEMA, which has been associated with the ZeitGenuss Festival from the beginning, the Ensemble for New Music of the Karlsruhe University of Music led by Manuel Nawri, and the Badische Staatskapelle conducted by Ulrich Wagner with the NachtKlängen.
In addition to the ZKM | Karlsruhe, many other venues in Karlsruhe are also part of the festival: the Wolfgang Rihm Forum of the Karlsruhe University of Music, the Evangelische Stadtkirche on Marktplatz, the studio of the Badisches Staatstheater and the newly opened Jazzclub in the Kaiserpassage.
The festival was founded in 2013 by the city of Karlsruhe and the Karlsruhe University of Music.
