Biography

Ole Blank lives and works in Hanover, Germany. In his artistic practice, he deals with the dialectics of human perception, the coexistence of different horizons of thought, and the different resulting approaches to interpreting cultural and natural phenomena and effects by using multimedia formats. The conceptual starting point is often social commonplaces, »places of memory« in the sense of well-known and recognized myths of all formats. Blank examines these material and immaterial places in relation to their sphere of influence, whereby »space« as a subject usually is being questioned. The construct of spatiality and location between the rhizomatic network of things and rigid systems of thought is a fundamental conflict addressed in many of Blank's works. Blank creates poetic images that allegorically tell us about these entanglements, dialectics, and dilemmas of the human perspective. His works have been shown in various exhibitions in Germany, the Netherlands, and Romania. In January 2024, as a guest artist at the ZKM | Hertz Lab, Ole Blank created an acoustic study of the European continental border under the title »WaveRoom«.

In 2022, he followed the continental coast of Europe for several months in order to create an extensive archive of field recordings. Using the collected material, a composition for the Klangdom has been created at the ZKM, the conceptual focus of which is the acoustic simulation of an island.
