Biography
Kai Krösche is a director, musician/sound designer, writer, and video artist who, since 2005, has been creating artistic works that span a range of forms including theater, performance, installation, film, media art, and various hybrids. He co-founded the Viennese performance label DARUM, with which he was consecutively nominated for the renowned Austrian theatre award NESTROY in 2019 and 2020, and in 2023, along with Victoria Halper, was awarded the NESTROY Special Award for his performative installation »Homesick«. His projects have been featured at various important film, theater, and media festivals, such as the Hof International Film Festival (Germany), Rhode Island International Film Festival (USA), Impulse Theater Festival (Germany) and die digitale (Germany).
Krösche has received several artistic scholarships, including the Newcomer Scholarship for Performing Arts from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Arts and Culture (2018), the Vienna Dramatist Scholarship (2021, for writing a feature film screenplay), and the Theatre Scholarship from the City of Vienna (2022), during which he explored the creative potential of theater/performance in combination with virtual reality. As part of a residency at the Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, he worked on the concept for his first virtual reality project »[EOL]. End of Life«, developed in collaboration with Victoria Halper.
