Biography
The German Society for Electroacoustic Music – Deutsche Gesellschaft für Elektroakustische Musik (DEGEM) promotes electroacoustic music and sound art on a national and international level. This includes the organization of specialist conferences, courses, concerts and sound installations, international exchange and the distribution of publications and sound recordings as well as the commitment to appropriate production conditions for electroacoustic music, suitable fundings and networking with other associations, interest groups, artists and institutions.
Since 2018, DEGEM has awarded the annual Thomas Seelig Fixed Media Music Prize for acousmatic music. From 2005 to 2019, the DEGEM organized the DEGEM Webradio @ZKM in cooperation with the Institute for Music and Acoustics (IMA) of the ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe, which presented electroacoustic art in all its varieties.
The DEGEM was founded in Berlin on April 26, 1991. It is a member of the German Music Council, the Society for New Music and a founding member of the Musikfonds e. V., which awards funding for contemporary music in all genres throughout Germany.
