Disappearing Dialogues
Biography
The Disappearing Dialogues (dD) Collective is a dynamic platform, based in India, that engages with different communities, institutions, social groups, and generations through interactive, transdisciplinary practices, encompassing research, documentation, and collaborative activities. Founded and directed by Nobina Gupta, the collective collaborates closely with young local practitioners, artists, and community spaces, aiming to preserve and revitalize the cultural, ecological, and social heritage of vulnerable regions that are slowly but inevitably disintegrating.
Operating at the intersection of art, ecology, education, and conservation, the collective’s major work is currently centered around the East Kolkata Wetlands (EKW), a unique ecosystem that sustains both biodiversity and livelihoods.
Emphasising process, practice, and everydayness, over the past several years, Disappearing Dialogues (dD) has amplified the voices of wetland communities to uphold and celebrate their traditional knowledge systems on both national and international platforms. Through various processes of creative methodologies, the collective archives the wetland ecosystem, mapping its socio-spatial realities, and advocates for ecological justice. It aims to catalyse environmental conservation and nurture a network of wetland ambassadors empowered by local voices who collectively work toward sustainability, cultural continuity, and climate resilience.
