Varoujan Chetirian

Varoujan Chetirian is an Armenian-Swiss sound artist and curator whose work is primarily based between Armenia, Switzerland, and Germany.

His artistic practice explores listening as a critical tool for engaging with memory, territory, technology, and the more-than-human world. Through sound installations, performances, field recordings, and artistic research, he develops projects that investigate the political and social dimensions of sonic experience, often in long-term collaboration with researchers, local communities, and cultural institutions. His work has been presented internationally at festivals, museums, and public spaces, including CERN (Geneva), CTM Festival (Berlin), Open Space (Tbilisi), Antigel (Geneva), and other international venues.

Alongside his artistic practice, Varoujan is the founder and Artistic Director of NOPA, Armenia's first festival dedicated to sound art and experimental music. Through NOPA, he has established an international platform that brings together artists, researchers, and audiences from the South Caucasus and across Europe.

He is currently co-curator of Stellar Frequencies, a two-year Goethe Excellence Program (2026–2027) that explores the intersections of sound, space exploration, and the contemporary politics of the cosmos through exhibitions, artist residencies, and public programs in Armenia and Germany.
