Lautaro Figueroa Balcarce
Biography
Lautaro Figueroa Balcarce (*1995, Buenos Aires, Argentinia) is a composer working at the intersection of experimental music and media art. His practice integrates instrumental composition, electronic music, and digital technologies to build environments where live performers interact with virtual systems.
He studied composition at the Hochschule der Künste Bern (HKB) with Simon Steen-Andersen, completing his Master's degree in 2024, and later pursued advanced studies in mixed music at the Conservatoire de Strasbourg with Daniel D'Adamo.
His music has been performed at venues across Argentina, France, Germany, Switzerland, and the United States, including the Château de Versailles, the National Opera America Center, Zentrum Paul Klee, the Biblioteca Nacional Argentina, and Theaterhaus Stuttgart, by ensembles and performers such as the Mivos Quartet, Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart, Ensemble Musikfabrik, Le Concert Idéal, Ensemble Linea, Spółdzielnia Muzyczna Contemporary Ensemble, and the Unheard-of Ensemble, amongst others.
His distinctions include three grants from the Mozarteum Argentino, first prize in the composition competition organized by European String Teachers Association (ESTA) Switzerland for its 50th anniversary, the Music Current Commission 2024 from Dublin Sound Lab, and the Sounding Images Screening Sounds SISSPROJECT 2025 Composition Award in the "Young Pioneers" category.
