What if your email suddenly gets blocked? Your credit card is no longer accepted? Your digital services are no longer available? Digital sovereignty means understanding, making your own decisions, and staying able to act. This requires knowledge, secure and transparent technologies, open standards, and real alternatives.

Karlsruhe’s digital ecosystem brings together specialized expertise for this: from computer science and IT security to law, data protection, and AI, as well as knowledge transfer and media art. Here, solutions for digital sovereignty are developed, tested, and put into practice.

On October 9, 2026, the initiative karlsruhe.digital will publicly present the Karlsruhe Manifesto for Digital Sovereignty. The event explores what digital sovereignty means, why it affects all of us, and what concrete options and alternatives from Karlsruhe are already available today.
