European Hybrid Intelligence Network (EHIN) brings together artists, scientists, and environmental practitioners to study how living organisms generate, exchange, and respond to information within natural ecosystems.
Through biocomputing and collaborative inquiry, EHIN approaches biological processes not merely as technological alternatives to silicon computing, but as a way to understand ecological interdependence and interspecies communication. We invite you to step into real world environments, examine multi-species relationships, and develop new artistic narratives rooted in ecological knowledge.
We are offering six distinct residency partners, each providing a unique environment and framework for interdisciplinary collaboration, fieldwork, and experimentation.
Six host institutions, six research contexts
Center for the Promotion of Science (CPN) (Belgrade, Serbia)
A cross-disciplinary setting with makerspace and prototyping facilities, supported by expertise in bioinformatics, biological signal processing, neuroengineering and computational systems.
GLUON (Brussels, Belgium)
A research environment focused on bioprinting and biofabrication, connected to scientific expertise at Utrecht University and UMC Utrecht. The residency supports artistic research into living materials, cells and organoids, human–AI–biology collaboration, agency and authorship. Host website
Kersnikova Institute (Ljubljana, Slovenia)
A hybrid art-and-science production environment combining BioTehna, Rampa Lab, Vivarium and Kapelica Gallery. It is suited to research into biocomputation, interspecies communication, non-human cognition and ecosystemic intelligence, with laboratory, sensing, electronics and production support. Host website
KONTEJNER | bureau of contemporary art praxis (Zagreb, Croatia)
An interdisciplinary curatorial and production context connected to researchers, laboratories and the Laboratory of Advanced Genomics at the Ruđer Bošković Institute. The residency welcomes experimental and critical approaches to biocomputing, living systems and non-human–machine interactions. Host website
LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial (Gijón, Spain)
An art, science and technology production centre offering studio space, fabLAB, soundlab, audiovisual equipment and production support. Its coastal, mountain, forest and urban surroundings provide opportunities to connect research with diverse environments. Host website
ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe (Karlsruhe, Germany)
Through Hertzlab, ZKM supports artistic research into bio-inspired and biohybrid systems, including living tissues, organoids, neural activity, soft electronic interfaces and robotics, with a network of scientific collaborators. Host website
