Medienlunge

Peter Weibel created the »Medienlunge« [Media Lung] already in 1967. It is a lung made of deerskin supplemented with electronic devices, which intends to optimize human capabilities. With a photo camera or dictaphone under the armpit like a gun holster, the wearer becomes an everyday guerilla, always ready to document, to save, or intentionally intervene in the environment. Here, the artist envisions the electronically or technically augmented human being. An idea that became reality years later through ubiquitous wearable computing or smart clothing, that is, garments equipped with electronic devices to measure body condition.
