»Asymptote«: Hani Rashid + Lise Anne Couture

Hani Rashid and Lise Anne Couture formed the art and architecture collaborative Asymptote in 1989 in New York City. Their innovative and visionary works have received global acclaim and in 2004 they were awarded the prestigious Friedrich-Kiesler-Preis für Architektur und Kunst and named by TIME magazine as Leaders in Innovation for the 21st Century. Asymptote’s installations have been presented at numerous museums including MoMA and The Guggenheim, as well as Documenta XI. At present Asymptote is designing the new Hermitage Modern Contemporary Museum in Moscow and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary Foundation in Venice Italy.

The artistic focus of the Schlosslichtspiele 2017 lies on new forms of architecture, connecting digital elements and analogue artifacts, in order to give efficient answers to the question how living spaces can be designed in the future. Hani Rashid and Lise Anne Couture are representatives for these visionary building constructions, which do not necessarily lead to real buildings. For the Schlosslichtspiele 2017 the architects implemented the work »Hyperfine Splitting 008_Mediations on Jakob’s Ladder«. The materiality of the building is broken up piece by piece: new structures emerge in the river; real shapes of the castle facade interact with computer-generated lines and models.
