Biography
Chiharu Koda is a media artist based in Karlsruhe. Her immersive installations invite viewers into poetic, multilayered worlds shaped by memory, material, and space.
Trained in ceramics at Okayama Prefectural University, Koda later studied sculpture at the Kunstakademie Karlsruhe. Over time, her practice has evolved to fuse analogue craft with digital technologies — blending tactile materials, electronic components, and algorithmic systems to create environments that resonate with both personal and collective memory.
Koda’s work explores how we remember, how we move through space, and how these two experiences are deeply intertwined. Her installations often respond to the specific context of a place, offering interactive encounters that unfold in real time.
She has received several honors for her work, including the Shu-Ou Foundation Scholarship and the Studio Hö residency from the Hoepfner Foundation in partnership with UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts Karlsruhe.
