Biography

Emilio Mendoza studied composition under Yannis Ioannidis in Caracas, and later composition and live electronics at the Robert Schumann Institute at the Düsseldorf Academy of Music under Günther Becker. Emilio Mendoza has also carried out researched in Krokobitey, Ghana on West African drumming and dance. As guitarist, Emilio Mendoza is member of the group Ozono Jazz, which developed its own entirely unique form of "ecological music". Mendoza was Assistant Professor of Music at the State University of New York, and Visiting Professor at the Institute of Music and Music Education at the University of Potsdam. He is presently Full Professor of Music at the Universidad Simón Bolívar, in Venezuela. 

Emilio Mendoza holds numerous lectures at international conferences; his music is performed at festivals throughout the world. He has also been carrying out research in the field of visual music and experimental art-video since the 1970s. In 2007 he initiated the research project »AVIA − Translation« at the Universidad Simón Bolívar. He had already been guest artist at the ZKM⎥Institute for Music and Acoustics in 2008 and 2009.
