Glass Bead
Biography
Glass Bead is a research platform and a journal concerned with transfers of knowledge across art, science and philosophy, as well as with their practical and political dimensions. Conceived as a collective exploration of heterogeneous fields of knowledge often deemed to be incompatible, Glass Bead gathers each year a community of artists, scientists, theoreticians and philosophers around a specific research site, to explore its theoretical, aesthetic and political dimensions, as well as charting original syntheses between them.
Founded in 2013, Glass Bead initiated in 2014 a first year of research, which translated into a series of events at MoMA-PS1 (New York), e-Flux (New York), and Les Laboratoires d’Aubervilliers (Paris). Following these events, Glass Bead undertook the creation of an online journal (bilingual, published annually) and of an associated research platform. The first issue of the journal, titled Site 0: Castalia, the Game of Ends and Means, was published in February 2016.
The new issue is titled Site 1: Logic Gates, the Politics of the Artifactual Mind, and will be officially launched with the conference at ZKM | Karlsruhe.
Glass Bead is co-directed by Fabien Giraud, Jeremy Lecomte, Vincent Normand, Ida Soulard and Inigo Wilkins.
