Biography

Karsten Süßmilch (*1974 in Hanover, Germany) studied bass trombone at the music universities in Karlsruhe and Rotterdam, as well as at the Orchestra Academy of the Staatskapelle Berlin. At the same time, he gained his first professional experience in renowned orchestras. His career is characterized by a constant change between instrumentation, styles, playing situations, and genres. In addition to various world premieres of works composed for him and his involvement with contemporary music, his portfolio includes theater productions (composition/musical direction/live music), performances, band projects, engagements as a studio and orchestra musician, as well as chamber music and solo projects.

His professional experience includes working with directors such as Sandra Strunz, Albrecht Hirche, and Luk Perceval, jazz musicians such as Filippa Gojo, Benjamin Weidekamp, and Hansjörg Fink, conductors such as Péter Eötvös and Titus Engel, and composers such as Gordon Kampe, Elnaz Seyedi, Peter Gahn, Helmut Oehring, Gerald Eckert, and others. Karsten Süßmilch is a trombonist with consord (consord.net) and bass trombonist with Brassfabrik 4.0 (brassfabrik.de). He lives in Duisburg, Germany.
