- Marcus Michaelsen is a researcher specializing in digital media, democratization and Iranian politics. He obtained his PhD in media and communication studies from the University of Erfurt, Germany, with a dissertation on the role of the Internet in Iran’s political transformation (published in German: »Wir sind die Medien. Internet und politischer Wandel in Iran«, transcript, 2013). He is also the editor of a collection of articles by Iranian journalists on the 2009 election protests and their subsequent repression (»Election Fallout. Iran’s Exiled Journalists on their Struggles for Democratic Change«, Schiler, 2011). From 2004 to 2006, Marcus Michaelsen lived in Tehran as a research fellow at the Institut Français de Recherche en Iran (IFRI).
