Biography
Christiane Riedel studied art history, architectural history, and literary studies, with a focus on “Art of the 20th Century to the Present,” at the University of Karlsruhe (TH) and the University of Hamburg. In 1992, she became Managing Director of the Deutscher Werkbund Baden-Württemberg. In 1997, she assumed the position of Managing Director of the Lower Saxony Research Network for Women’s and Gender Studies in the Natural Sciences, Technology, and Medicine (NFFG), a research funding institution of the State of Lower Saxony dedicated to strengthening interdisciplinary research and gender studies, based at Leibniz University Hannover. From 2002, Christiane Riedel was Managing Director of the Center for Art and Media (ZKM) in Karlsruhe, and from 2017 onward, she served as Executive Board Member, together with the Artistic-Scientific Director Peter Weibel. Alongside this, she taught in the Art and Cultural Management program at Karlshochschule International University from 2009 onward and has been an honorary professor since 2012. Since 2015, she was a member of the University Council of the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design, and since 2016, she served as Chair of the University Council. In 2020, she joined the board of the Crespo Foundation in Frankfurt am Main.
