This year, for the fourteenth occasion and for a total of three weeks, Karlsruhe will very much be under sign of contemporary dance. With the dance festival, the culture center Tempel places particular emphasis on extraordinary achievements, and shows creative representations.
Performances in contemporary dance will also be held at the ZKM in a variety of ways throughout the three evenings: in addition to the improvised interplay of sound and movement in »an encounter of improvised music & dance«, by Hauschka & Edivaldo Ernesto, the choreographed solo performance »HAKANAÏ« by the company Adrien M/Claire B (F) will also be presented, as well as the augmented reality performance »The Smartphone Project«, by choreograph Fabien Prioville.

The performance emerged from the collaboration between two extraordinary artist personalities: The internationally celebrated pianist and composer Volker Bertelmann, alias Hauschka, meets with the young Mozambican dancer Edivaldo Ernesto, from the ranks of the company Sasha Waltz & Guests! Without fixed program sequence, open for developments, spontaneity and the developments of each of the others – the two artists present an improvised collaboration comprising sound and movement, and, while departing from the security of composition and choreography, thus enter artistic discourse.

Hauschka,
who, among other things recently recorded an album with exceptional American violinist Hilary Hahn, as well as composing music for the theater installation »Puppets« at the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus, and Döris Dörries film »Glück«, is internationally considered one of the most remarkable modern representatives of prepared piano. Shifting between sound art and experimental, post-classic and chamber music, elektronika and pop &minus, it is not easy to classify his music; with his most recent solo-album »Salon des Amateurs« he has augmented his spectrum towards minimal techno and house.
