The composer Bill Dietz and the musicologist Amy Cimini will introduce the work of Maryanne Amacher, the US-American sound artist and companion of John Cage, in a workshop followed by a listening session.

The American composer Maryanne Amacher (1938–2009) is one of the world's most influential installation artists and composers of electronic and experimental music. Amacher's influence extends far beyond experimental music to popular music, where she has had a lasting impact on Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth), for example.

Amacher gained special recognition for her research into the relationship between space and sound, as well as for her work in the field of psychoacoustics, within which she focused primarily on the phenomenon of otoacoustic emissions, which she generated with special synthesizers. This extraordinary sound experience occurs during listening directly in the human inner ear.

As part of the event »On the Work of Maryanne Amacher«, composer Bill Dietz and musicologist and professor Amy Cimini (University of California San Diego) will present the pioneer's work in a discursive format through a workshop and listening session. Both Dietz and Cimini are acknowledged specialists in the work of American sound artist Amacher. The former worked with Amacher for years, and the latter published the book »Wild Sound: Maryanne Amacher and the Tenses of Audible Life« in 2022.
