Join us for the »Fourth Summit on New Media Art Archiving«. The meeting of media art archives will take place from 25 to 26 June 2024 as part of ISEA2024, the 29th International Symposium on Electronic Art, in Brisbane, Australia.

The »Fourth Meeting on New Media Art Archiving« is being organised by ISEA2024 in collaboration with the ISEA Symposium Archives, the Archive of Digital Art (ADA), the Archive for the Histories of Media Art, the ZKM | Karlsruhe, the SIGGRAPH History Archive, the Archive of the Electronic Language International Festival (FILE), the MEMODUCT posthuman archive and ISEA International, with the support of Ars Electronica.

History of the »Summit on New Media Art Archiving«

The initiative on new media art archiving was launched in response to the »Liverpool Declaration« and began with roundtable discussions at ISEA2018 in Durban, South Africa and ISEA2019 in Gwangju, South Korea. The first, second and third summits were held at ISEA2020 (Montreal), ISEA2022 (Barcelona) and ISEA2023 (Paris).

Topics

The call for papers for the »Fourth Summit on New Media Art Archiving« focused on three main topics: In relation to the ISEA2024 themes, it called for papers on 'culturally safe virtual spaces', 'machine learning as co-creator', 'transmedia storytelling', 'digital museology, cultural heritage and archaeological reconstruction', and on 'all kinds of augmented, mixed, extended and virtual realities from interactive digital worlds to the metaverse'. Secondly, the call asked for suggestions on how to secure the network and the work of the Summit in the long term: How can we give the Summit a better structural basis? Which actors would be willing to get involved? The third focus was on how the »Connecting Archives« project, which aims to network archival databases worldwide, can be supported in the long term.
