Cultural academy Baden-Württemberg

Since 2018, we, the ZKM | Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, have been part of a unique nationwide support program, the cultural academy of the foundation Kinderland Baden-Württemberg. Since 2010, the foundation has been supporting young people in grades 6 to 11 to deepen and develop their talents in the visual arts, literature, MINT, and music during two creative weeks. 

The ZKM is one of the eight institutions of the scholarship program and an important part of the artistic program. The young people in grades 9 to 11 immerse themselves in artistic work with us and at the same time discover the cosmos of the ZKM art exhibitions.

Art offers ALL PEOPLE a unique opportunity to express their feelings, thoughts, and ideas.

Artistically talented young people often have an extraordinary need to express themselves creatively. They need the freedom to experiment, explore and realize their own ideas. 

The ZKM offers cultural academy scholarship holders an exciting learning environment with flexible structures that allow for creative freedom. Through access to various artistic materials, both analog and digital, their diverse applications, and an interdisciplinary approach, students discover their own preferences and strengths.

Together with our artistic instructors, Fanny Kranz and Max Kosoric, cultural academy fellows explore contemporary art and contemporary issues. They find their own answers and translate their thoughts into art. The inspiring workshops at the ZKM are available to them, such as the open DIY workshop "BÄM" or our media workshop.

A central component of the creative weeks are the group evenings, which focus on having fun together. A varied program awaits the participants, including an open-air cinema, a picnic in the castle garden or a visit to the studios of the State Academy of Design in Karlsruhe.
