As part of the collaboration between SYNTH-WERK and ZKM, a unique focus has been placed on the Bode Barberpole Phaser – a classic of electronic history that, in its reissue and in dialogue with Moog’s modular synthesizers, unveils its original power. This specific reconstruction is not only a technical endeavor but also an artistic project that bridges the past and future of electronic music.

The hands-on workshop »The BODE Barberpole Phaser and a legendary MOOG sound source...« offers a distinctive perspective on the intersection of technology, music, and performance. It is not just about hardware reconstruction, but rather about active engagement with the technology and its creative potential. Gerhard Mayrhofer, developer and founder of SYNTH-WERK, and his long-time project partner Uwe Rottluff lead the workshop, where participants not only learn but also work with the very devices that revolutionized the sound of electronic music.

This workshop represents a profound dialogue between technology and art, transferring the historical significance of the Bode Barberpole Phaser into the present day and elevating the connections between hardware, music, and performance to a new level. In this exciting exploration of development and sound, the knowledge of the past comes alive and finds its place in the present of electronic music.
