»fluidum 1« is an early example of reactive art. Through the use of infrared video technology, viewers find themselves in the dual role of being observed and actively shaping the observed image. The underlying computer program abstracts bodies as contours using thousands of light points. This transfer creates a defamiliarizing effect, making something visible that is always present in the solidity of anatomical bodies, but can never be consciously felt: the flowing electrical energy that governs communication between cells, enabling the transmission of synaptic information and maintaining life itself.

Holger Försterer’s media artwork stimulates visitors through a dynamic mirror image. The energetic flow encompassing the body’s silhouette has an animating, energizing effect: Viewers can give the light display a situational and unique expression through their own movements.
