The ZAK | Zentrum für Angewandte Kulturwissenschaft und Studium Generale (Center for applied cultural sciences and general studies) will host the symposium together with ZKM | Center for Art and Media, the Badischen Staatstheater Karlsruhe and the support of the Universität Karlsruhe (TH)'s International Academy for Sustainable Development. The conference will open on Friday, 5 May at 7 p.m. with a speech by the former German ambassador to Moscow, Dr. Ernst Jörg von Studnitz. Following the opening speech will be a podium discussion on current freedom of the press and freedom of opinion in Russia. On Saturday, renowned scientists will hold lectures on the individual thematic blocks, followed by a podium discussion on the following themes: economic and socio-political development in Russia, the legal culture and civil society, »Germany-Russia, a special friendship?«, Russia's relationship to its border regions, economic and socio-political development in Moscow, subcultures, countercultures, and youth cultures. Presented on Saturday evening will be the globally celebrated montage film »Out of the Present« by Andrei Ujica. Following the film presentation, Prof. Peter Sloterdijk and Prof. Boris Groys will discuss the film's contents.
