Program

Concert with David Amram and Emil Mangelsdorff
feat. Erwin Ditzner (dr), Judith Goldbach (b), Thomas Siffling (tr), Matthias Ockert (g)

A reunion will take place at the ZKM 60 years after the last meeting: together with Emil Mangelsdorff, one of the legendary jazz musicians and David Amram will appear together on stage as they did in the mid-1950s.
Owing to National Socialism, due to his love of jazz and because he belonged to the Hot Club Frankfurt, Emil Mangelsdorff was incarcerated for three weeks by the Gestapo. At the age of 87, he is today considered a true institution of German and international saxophone playing. As one of the last representatives of Bepop – a movement in jazz – the bearer of the Federal Cross of Merit continues to give concerts on a regular basis. As part of his experiments in the sphere of jazz and poetry, Mangelsdorff, together with his Quartett and Sebastian Norden released a sound version of the Ginsberg works "Howl" and "America".
