The AppArtAward is about to enter the fifth round! Over the last two months 115 Apps from a total of twenty countries were submitted for the AppArtAward 2015. On June 8, 2015 a prominent jury comprising David Hermanns, Martin Hubschneider, Ester Petri, Stephan Schwingeler, Gaël Betrand and Gaëtan Libertiaux adjudicated on the best submissions in the field of creative applications. Submissions were sent in from all over the world for this year’s AppArtAward.

An exciting program for the awards presentation, which is moderated by Markus Brock (SWR), is expected, including, among others, media performances, App-magician Andreas Axman, Chicks on Speed, as well as DJ Jago. Should you not be able to be present in person, the awards presentation may be followed via our live-stream.

The Jury

As the jury commented, the submitted applications “convinced us thanks to the wide thematic scope and the realization thereof: submissions ranged from highly complex programming through to simple, though no-less ingenious ideas”. Now in its fifth year, the AppArtAward testifies to its international presence and acceptance as a competition for digital art through the versatile, multinational and renowned participants."

The Prize honors the best artworks in app format that represent advanced artistic applications. Besides artistic aspects the creative integration as well as the use of options offered by new technologies is important.

Special Prize For Crowd Art

Crowd Art refers both to deterritorialized, cross-linked cloud computing, and to the collective creativity which it enables. Crowd Art describes the changeover from the analog era of production (goods that have are mass-produced by machines, mass culture, etc.) to the age of digital distribution (data, media, personalization: the masses as a collective of individuals). Apps on mobile devices are the global testing ground for this new art form.

Special Prize For Sound Art

Sound Art refers to all applications in which sounds are processed in an artistic way. Here, output can be very diverse: whether data are sonified, audiovisual works created or innovative DJ tools implemented – there are manifold possibilities for combining music and App.
New technologies accompany a perceptual transformation of sound, space, time, movement and form. The Special Award for Sound Art accounts for this development. It answers the many possibilities emerging from the interplay of App and sound.
