The International Ensemble Modern Academy (IEMA) is a regular guest at the ZKM | Music and Acoustics Institute (IMA). With the young IEMA musicians and composers, the Frankfurter Ensemble Modern, one of the world’s best ensembles for contemporary music, offers the chance to gain important experience for their future careers under the instruction of professionals.
With this long-term cooperation, the ZKM | IMA meets its responsibility for the promotion and presentation of the next generation of musical talent and offers space to develop the music of tomorrow. The focus of the concerts both on Friday 25.09. (20:30) and Saturday 26.09. (19:00) is on the encounter with new technologies, which is why the IEMA scholarship holders will be presenting their current works as part of the »Tangible Sound« festival.
As well as premieres and current works, style-defining compositions of contemporary music will also be the focus of the programme. Visitors on Friday and Saturday can expect the performance of new productions by a young generation of composers, such as Sergej Maingardt and Jacques Zafra. In addition, works by established composers such as Pierre Boulez, York Höller and Emmanuel Nunes will be performed.
At the end of the Saturday programme, all visitors and participating musicians and artists are invited to finish the evening together listening to the sounds of Hamburg DJ Pjotrek. Pjotrek deejays techno records at a speed of 33 rpm, meaning the groove becomes a hypnotic mantra in slow motion and the beats move with unimagined beauty.
