Wed, January 25, 2017 6.30 pm CET, Lecture

Daniel Rourke is a writer/artist. His research hijacks speculative and science fiction in search of a radical »outside« to the human(ities), including extensive writing on the intersection between digital materiality, posthumanism, and the arts. In March 2015 Morehshin Allahyari and Daniel released The 3D Additivist Manifesto a call to push technologies beyond their breaking point, into the realm of the provocative, and the weird. The resulting Cookbook of radical designs, by over 100 artists and theorists, was published in November 2016, and will be featured as an exhibition at Transmediale 2017.

In this lecture Rourke will address the question of »problem solving« in the Anthropocene, contriving dystopian and horror fiction into methodologies for new kinds of action. Is it more radical to change the world or change ourselves, and what are the implications of taking a position?
