Film screening as part of International Women’s Day

As part of International Women’s Day, the ZKM will be showing a documentary film about the life of Sakine Cansiz (pseudonym: Sara) in cooperation with the Kurdish Social Centre.

Sara is a founding member of the Kurdish liberation movement PKK and a symbol and role model for the Kurdish women’s movement. In 2013, she was assassinated along with two other women from the PKK in a political attack in Paris. The documentary film by director Dersim Zeravan tells the story of the rebellious, uncompromising and strong woman, from her childhood, the foundation of the PKK in 1978, her 10-year imprisonment through to the day of her assassination. 

Sara – »My whole life was a battle« has already been shown at the globale film festival in Berlin and Stuttgart.

Please note: The film will be shown in Kurdish with German subtitles.
