Culture is Home
Sat, August 05, 2017 – Sun, August 06, 2017, Festival

One’s homeland is the source and origin of one’s own identity, a feeling of familiarity, of arrival and of being at home. »Culture is Home« is the motto used by Karlsruhe’s museums and cultural institutions on August 5, 2017 as it opens the 19th Karlsruhe Museum Night KAMUNA. An extensive and exciting program is on offer between 6 pm and  1am for any cultural enthusiasts that want to make night into day.

The ZKM is being represented once again with countless exhibitions and agenda points. The»Radical Software«,»Centerbeam« and »Aldo Tambellini. Black matters« exhibitions show the origins of media art. Aldo Tambellini is considered one of the pioneers of intermedia art of the 1960s and 1970s. The »X-rayed« workshop allows you to explore how he produced his lumagrams. Anyone wanting to know more about the artist should listen in on the guided tour in English through the exhibition or take part in the »Performative Activity Tour«. The »Radical Software« exhibition presents video works and installations of the counter-culture »Raindance Corporation« video collective of New York of the 1970s.

Accompanying the »Poetic Expansions« series of exhibitions, the ZKM | Library invites you to take part in the »Library Magnetic Poetry« poetry workshop. It’s not just about fun and games in the »ZKM_Gameplay«: The interactive »Blind Cow« game encourages teamwork and you can send a home-made robot through a tricky obstacle course in the »Robo Obstacle Course« workshop.

In the ZKM | Cube, musical entertainment is provided with the interactive »Code Chain« sound installation and two »Sound Dome concerts«. An audio-visual 3D concert with the works of »Deconstruction Double« and »Spin« round off the program.

The »Markus Lüpertz. Art that stands in the way« exhibition provides an insight into the life’s work of the artist over five decades. The exhibition can be explored on this evening using »Wordparcours«, a performative activity tour or in French.

»Hybrid Layers« opens up new perspectives of digital technology, the internet and social media. The exhibition presents current media art projects, which can be explored as part of a dialogic guided tour. On the other hand, you can be creative and share your impressions of social networks on the “Instawalk” through the exhibition – or at the »PLOTTERWORKSHOP@BÄM FRESHLY CUT!«.

In keeping with the KAMUNA motto, we are looking at the Rhine in all its facets: The video sound journey along the Rhine leads from Iffezheim to Karlsruhe. Lasse-Marc Riek presents audio tests of his field recordings along the Rhine and Thomas Siefert invites you to take a journey through time along the development of the Rhine with »Rhine 4.0 – Anthropocene begins with Tulla«.

Last but not least visitors to the ZKM are invited to a tour through the VanAbbe Museum in Eindhoven as part of the KAMUNA. A robot will take them on a virtual tour through the current exhibitions in the Dutch VanAbbe Museum.
