The University of Art and Design Karlsruhe (HfG) awards the scientist, computer artist and writer Herbert W. Franke an honorary doctorate for his extraordinary services in building bridges between science, philosophy and art.

On the occasion of the award, ZKM provides insight in the Herbert W. Franke Archives that are given to the ZKM | Center for Art and Media Technology. The extensive archives which have been created over many decades  are not only a unique treasure in the history of computer and media art, but also of speleology and science fiction – the three areas in which Franke pioneered and established, through his journalistic work, a large international network. The archive, a first part of which has been handed over already to ZKM, is now being prepared in order to provide access to researchers.
