Artist at Risk – Barış Seyitvan talks about the Kurdish art scene
Thu, August 01, 2019 6 pm CEST

Barış Seyitvan is a guest artist at the ZKM – and an artist in danger. As part of the »Artists at Risk« program, he is completing a three-month residency at the ZKM.

In many parts of the world, artists, writers, curators and scientists are the targets of politically motivated threats and persecution. The institution »Artists at Risk« works at the interface between human rights and art. Among other things, it supports artists by enabling them to safely leave their countries of origin. It also serves as a platform and network to support the persecuted in times of need.

Seyitvan is former director of the Amed Art Gallery in the Turkish city of Diyarbakır. Through his engagement in the field of contemporary art and migration in the Middle East, he became aware of the project »Artists at risk« himself. At the ZKM he talks about the situation of politics and art in his home country.

Please note: The conversation will be translated from Turkish into German.
