30 Years of ZKM
The photo was taken at night with a drone. It shows the fog sculpture and many silhouettes of visitors of KAMUNA 2019. The cube and the facade of the building are brightly illuminated.
Long Anniversary Weekend
Fri, October 04, 2019 – Sun, October 06, 2019, Festival

Founded in 1989 by visionary citizens of the city of Karlsruhe, the ZKM | Center for Art and Media celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2019. To mark this occasion, the ZKM not only presents its unique collection in its anniversary year with the exhibition »Writing the History of the Future«, but also celebrates its birthday with a long anniversary weekend together with the most important guests: its visitors.

In chronological order, the most important stages from 30 years of ZKM history will be presented during the festive program of the anniversary weekend. Since its foundation, the ZKM has accompanied the development towards digital culture and takes up current topics in its exhibitions and events in order to draw the public's attention to questions, backgrounds and problems of current developments.

The ZKM was founded in 1989 with the idea of combining artistic concepts with future-oriented technologies. Today, the ZKM is regarded worldwide as a driving force for digital change beyond the borders of Karlsruhe and is constantly developing new formats and approaches to art and culture. The anniversary weekend spotlights the artistic highlights of the house and invites all visitors to go on an expedition to the most important stations of the »digital Bauhaus« – like the ZKM is also called.
