Long March: Restart is a satirical allusion to the Long March of the Red Army under Mao Zedong in 1934–1935, considered the founding myth of the People's Republic of China.

In the role of a Red Army soldier, the player fights their way from left to right through enemy hordes. The opponents are from well-known U.S. and Japanese computer games, such as »Super Mario Bros« (1985) or »Street Fighter 2« (1991). They are attacked with Coca-Cola cans.

The game depicts the dichotomy of China, which operates as both communist and capitalist. As early as 1993 Feng Mengbo created 42 oil paintings in pixel style titled »Game Over: Long March«. In 2009 he concluded this series with the installation presented here: »Long March: Restart«.
