digilog@bw – Digitalization in Dialogue
Society in Digital Change
Digitization is transforming all areas of life. Analyzing the effects of this far-reaching transformation in order to create a basis for the informed planning of possible futures was the goal of the research project »digilog@bw - Digitalization in Dialog«, which was initiated in 2019. The concluding symposium provides insight into the research results and invites to a get-together.
The interdisciplinary »digilog@bw« project, which is being conducted by seven Baden-Württemberg universities and research institutions, involves more than 50 scientists from the humanities, social sciences, law, economics, media and communication sciences, ethics and computer science, as well as technology assessment. The concepts of "autonomy", "knowledge" and "participation" were points of orientation for both the individual research topics and the joint reflection.
After three years, a selection of the research results will be presented in compact formats. The spectrum ranges from the question of fairness and diversity sensitivity of algorithms to the dissolution of boundaries between work and private life, where advantages and disadvantages are assessed very differently, but the need for "boundary management" seems to be a matter of consensus.
The discussion »Do science and society enter into dialogue through art?« addresses the lessons of the three-year science education program, which – under the leadership of the ZKM – countered the pandemic-related restrictions on dialogue with new formats.
The final discussion takes up the fundamental question, which was also addressed to the project team by the citizens, to what extent the digital transformation can be shaped at all – by civil society and politics – and what role digitization research may play.
