Biography
Koenig was born in 1926 in Magdeburg and had a broad musical education, including church music and computer technology in Braunschweig, Detmold, Cologne and Bonn. From 1954 to 1964 he worked at the Studio for Electronic Music of the WDR Cologne and from 1964 to 1986 he was director of the Institute for Sonology at the University of Utrecht. There he developed his own computer programs e.g. »Project 1« and »Project 2«. He composes electronic music as well as instrumental orchestral and chamber music. Since 1991 he has been editor of the collected writings »Aesthetic Practice« in six volumes, publiched at Pfau Verlag. In the winter semester 2002/2003 he was Edgard Varèse guest professor at the Department of Communication Sciences at the TU Berlin.
